Summary of the Winter 2019/20 AMOS Projects

This winter semester, students of TU Berlin completed four AMOS projects. Each section below describes the final result of one of the projects:

  1. Logistics Dashboard (an app to provide easy communications between employees),
  2. App4UCU (an app which interacts with the core functions of UCU and shows internal signals),
  3. Configaroo (an app which enables the management of large distributed code bases), and
  4. Ne:xt HMI (an integration of a trip computer app, a podcast app and messaging app to create an integrated car operating system)

Logistics Dashboard

Project nameLogistics Dashboard
Project missionThe mission of this project is to create a ‘real-time dashboard for logistics’. The application helps planners to communicate with balancers remotely and automatize their work. This tool eliminates the necessity of unwanted emails and mobile phones for communication, and provides an easy to use interface to handle all business tasks.

Project summaryFor the logistics dashboard project, our team, composed of 7 students, worked together with 4Flow AG to create the 4Flow Dashboard Web-App. It allows planners to communicate with balancers remotely and automatize their work. Throughout this project, our team experienced some challenges while implementing the new technologies for web development, like the React library, Nest Js and Firebase. Despite our different background and skill level, we managed to fulfill our mission for the project and during the process, we experienced a great working environment with our teammates.

App4UCU

Project nameApp4UCU
Project missionDelivery of an easy and intuitive application which will enable engineers and novice users to interact with an universal controll unit (UCU). Core functionality will be to send data via a network to the UCU, loop it back and store it on the web server. The project will be open source and extendable.

Project summaryFor our project, we have developed an interactive and intuitive UI for a complex hardware piece. We have managed to finish over 55 user stories with overall 230 story points culminating in a successful demo day, where our prototype was tested out by the present guests and industrial partners. Even though we had a lot of hardships acquiring the hardware pieces, we were able to finalize and deliver all the core features and requirements of our industrial partner.

Configaroo

Project nameConfigaroo
Project missionOur mission is to accelerate the development process of software projects by cutting down on initial setup overhead and allowing users to quickly pick and choose the right building blocks for their projects.
Industry partnerIAV GmbH

Project summaryConfigaroo is a tool developed in partnership with IAV. It allows effortless management of large distributed code bases. The prototype version of the tool enables the easy and straightforward organization of Github repositories and submodules by utilizing graph visualization functionality. In particular, Configaroo depicts the relationships between repositories and submodules as edges in a dependency graph. As visualization is one of the primary features of the tool, Configaroo supports a large variety of different graph layouts and allows dependency rendering ahead of time, so that developers can pick and choose the right set of modules for their final project configuration.

Ne:xt HMI

Project nameNe:xt HMI
Project missionOur mission is to prove the feasibility of a user-oriented, seamlessly integrated car operating system based on Android Automotive OS. The feasibility has been shown by integrating three basic apps; a trip computer app, a podcast app and messaging app. All three apps were to be integrated into a launcher application.

Project summaryFor the Ne:xt HMI AMOS project, our team consisting of eight students worked together with IAV to prove the feasibility of an Android Automotive based launcher-app that is customizable by the car manufacturer, with various degrees of flexibility gained in different approaches. The goals of our customer of creating a consistent look & feel for different AAOS apps has been achieved. The launcher application imposed sprint overlapping challenges on the development team; however, this did not hinder the successful development of the messaging, trip computer and podcast apps.
