Abstract: The lecture will motivate CD by the time-to-market aspect of the business needs. Software only contributes to business value if it is running for some purpose, ideally for a customer. Some historic examples and the current situation are sketched. We go into some details of a transformation project of a real Berlin market leading company. We discuss the changes on the software and build processes, cover the often forgotten edge cases (databases, loadbalancers and the impact on security) and the change on the team organisation and business structure. Finally, we take a look into the future and explain how we implement CD today with Containers and Kubernetes.

Speaker: Thomas Fricke is the CTO of Endocode and a cloud architect. He likes to work with scaling applications, especially with distributed databases. He has worked as a development engineer, system, software and cloud architect for many years. Current topics are large scale system automation for cloud native applications.
