Abstract: Software development became an important part of research. Software development processes not so much. But this is changing. The problem thereby is that industrial software development processes do not fit the research environment. In this talk I want to show you the variety of environments in which researchers develop software and which difficulties are faced when trying to introduce a software development process in it. In this context I will point out the advantages and disadvantages of agile (as well as some non-agile) development processes for different project types as well as present the approaches we recommend our colleagues.
Speaker: Carina Haupt is the head of the Software Engineering group at the German Aerospace Center’s (DLR) Simulation and Software Technology division. Her research fields include software engineering, open source, and knowledge management. Thereby her interest is in supporting domain scientist from all over the world in their work by creating software and process based solutions for their day to day problems. Next to supporting OSS in her work, she also is an organizer of one of the biggest open source conferences in Germany (FrOSCon) as well as other community events.
