We will host an industry talk on “Agile in research” in AMOS, our agile methods course. The talk is free and open to the public.

  • by: Carina Haupt, Deutsches Zentrum für Luft-und Raumfahrt (DLR)
  • about: Agile in research
  • on: February 8th, 2018, 10:15 Uhr
  • at: TU Berlin, Marchstraße 23, 10587 Berlin, room MAR 4.065
  • as part of: AMOS speaker series

Abstract: Software development became an important part of research. Software development processes not so much. But this is changing. The problem thereby is that industrial software development processes do not fit the research environment. In this talk I want to show you the variety of environments in which researchers develop software and which difficulties are faced when trying to introduce a software development process in it. In this context I will point out the advantages and disadvantages of agile (as well as some non-agile) development processes for different project types as well as present the approaches we recommend our colleagues.

Speaker: Carina Haupt is the head of the Software Engineering group at the German Aerospace Center’s (DLR) Simulation and Software Technology division. Her research fields include software engineering, open source, and knowledge management. Thereby her interest is in supporting domain scientist from all over the world in their work by creating software and process based solutions for their day to day problems. Next to supporting OSS in her work, she also is an organizer of one of the biggest open source conferences in Germany (FrOSCon) as well as other community events.

Based on my own experience in DLR Simulations- und Softwaretechnik Department, they are not agile at all! Only weekly meetings and process without goals, iterations, introspection,..
It will be an another great fake talk!
