Readers of this blog may have noticed that I manage a regular (bi-monthly) column on open source for the IEEE Computer magazine (about 60K print subscribers and many more online readers). Article topics are broadly about open source. I’m calling for proposals for new articles in the series. You can read past articles on this blog and on the Computer magazine site (all articles are freely accessible).
A good article covers a topic of interest to the general readership of Computer. This includes software developers, but not only software developers. A good article provides transferable knowledge and insights and hence can’t be specifically about a particular project, unless that project is of broad renown and relevance. Below, please see the topics mind-map I used as part of my proposal to the Computer EiC (Sumi Helal) in 2018, to give you some ideas.
I have a preference to continue current topics, most notably on open source tooling, but I’m happy to entertain ideas for later articles as well. Formal requirements include that the article must not be longer than 2500 words, with figures counting as 300 words. Writing must obviously be accessible to the Computer magazine readership. You will have to transfer the copyright to the IEEE for any published article, but it will be openly (freely) accessible on their website (no paywall).
